  • Coffee cherries on the living room coffee plant!

  • The Austrian Daylight Cycle Theory would make for a great tongue-in-cheek paper. Raising the daylight interest rate leads to daylight savings, which curbs daylight malinvestment.

  • I opened an issue in the Gutenberg repo for a setting to require alt text on images before publishing: https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/59754

  • I admire Bluesky’s setting to prevent posting without alt text on all images. This would make an excellent #a11y core setting!

  • Learning from last year’s seed starting mistakes: – more lights (shifted four bars to one shelf instead of one per) – lights closer to the seeds (raised up the soil and heating pads) – warmer location (basement instead of my drafty office) – lights on a timer (sunrise to sunset)

  • I like to batch things that I find annoying. Two examples in the last two days: I printed 8 things that I’ve been holding on to for two months. I superglued four things that I’ve set aside for the past month.

I rigged it up. Works great, and doesn’t collapse with both of the blast gates closed like some people on Reddit predicted.

  • Deli quart containers might be my new dust collection adapters. One end fits a 4″ outer diameter and the other fits a 4″ inner diameter.

  • Dust collection system is coming along! Next step is running hoses.

  • Sanded and planed the top to even out the joined sections. Now adding a blend of linseed oil and beeswax that I made a couple years ago for some stools. I had enough left for a couple coats.

  • Tonight’s tipple: Eastern Sour https://ultimatemaitai.com/2019/12/08/the-eastern-sour/

  • Oh, cool! One of my blog posts is in the Stack Overflow newsletter this week!

Blog post with the newsletter content: https://stackoverflow.blog/newsletter/issue-216-functional-time-travel/

  • “What region of Italy is chicken parm from?”

    “New Jersey”

  • We cleaned the whole house today, so of course our toddler came home and threw up in three different rooms before bedtime.

  • The bassline on NIN’s Sanctified is like a dark alternative Seinfeld.

  • I went to the Belmont Stakes just once in 2015 (we saw American Pharoah win the Triple Crown!) and haven’t been able to get off of their mailing list since. 9 years of unwanted emails.

  • Snow day

  • Seeing the videos of people wearing Vision Pros around in public, I can’t help but think of the Gargoyles in Snow Crash and Loki in Daemon.

  • The Baker Creek seed catalog came today! Spring is on its way.

  • Roasted a duck for a get together tonight and it might become one of our go-tos. It is easier than it seems and the rendered fat makes great side dishes (roasted potatoes and sautéed haricot verts). Plus we have another pint of fat to use later!
