This is the second Neal Stephenson book I read. I picked this up after enjoying Snow Crash. If you like space-based sci-fi that focuses on humans instead of aliens, this is the book you want to read.

Seveneves is a novel about the moon breaking apart, destruction of the earth’s surface, reduction of the earth’s population to 8 women living in space, and then the eventual rebuilding of humanity and repopulation of the earth over the next 5000 years. Very good story, but a number of gaps to be filled in. This is frustrating only because there are spots that get into too much technical detail of little consequence, only to jump forward 3, 300, or 1000 years in time abruptly leaving you wondering what happened in-between.

The entire storyline can plausibly happen, so it isn’t hard to imagine yourself in the story. This book was on my mind constantly for the next few weeks after finishing it.
